Builderius 1.0.8 Pro Beta + Free 1.1.8 Beta — Collections Rebuilt
February 3, 2026Collections in Builderius just got a complete overhaul. This release introduces six major features that transform how you build dynamic structures: any HTML tag support, dedicated Sub-Collection and Recursive Template elements, visual conditions inside loops on any element, optional frontend rendering, and a simplified Template element. Combined with dozens of stability fixes, this update makes building everything from simple post grids and data tables to deeply nested menus faster and more powerful.
What’s New in This Release
This release focuses entirely on making collections more capable and easier to use. We rebuilt the core architecture from the ground up, giving you new elements for complex data structures and removing the limitations that were holding you back.
Six Major Features:
1. Any HTML Tag Support (Pro)
2. Optional Frontend Rendering (no JSON unless you need it)
3. Visual Conditions Builder Inside Loops (now works on any element)
4. Simplified Template Element UI
5. Dedicated Sub-Collection Element
6. Dedicated Recursive Template Element
Each of these features addresses real limitations in the previous system. Together, they make collections uniquely powerful.
Any HTML Tag Support
Pro version: Collections and Sub-Collections now accept any HTML element — not just divs or lists.
Build semantic HTML tables with <table>, <thead>, <tbody>, <tr>, <td>. Create native accordions with <details> and <summary>. Use proper <ul> and <li> for navigation. Real select dropdowns with <option> elements. Definition lists with <dl>, <dt>, <dd>.
Free version: Collections and Sub-Collections support <div>, <ul>, and <ol> tags.
The right HTML element for the job. All accessible. All semantic. All built visually.
Optional Frontend Rendering
Collections can now render with or without JSON in the HTML output. A new “Frontend Render” toggle in collection settings controls this behavior.
Default is off — Collections render purely server-side with no JSON in the HTML. Clean markup, smaller file sizes. Only what you need.
Enable when needed — Turn on frontend rendering for client-side interactivity or when you need the data accessible to JavaScript. The JSON appears in a data attribute on the collection element.
Performance characteristics differ between modes. Pick what fits your use case.
Visual Conditions Builder Inside Loops
The conditions builder now works inside collection loops. Show or hide elements based on dynamic data from the loop — no expressions required.
Build a post grid where comment count indicators only appear when comments exist. Create product cards where “Out of Stock” badges show conditionally. Add “Most Popular” ribbons based on meta field values. Show nested menu items only when children are present.
Same visual conditions builder you use everywhere else. Now it works inside loops too.
Simplified Template Element
Template element is now responsible for less tasks. Its a plug and play element for majority of use cases. Serving as a wrapper without markup to define a looping item’s. Template can also be used to group elements that share conditional output. And defines what will be recursively repeated in recursive context.
Dedicated Sub-Collection Element
Build nested loops visually with the new Sub-Collection element. Handles loops inside loops without workarounds.
Drop a Sub-Collection inside your main collection’s Template element. Point it at nested data — menu children, product variations, threaded comments, ACF repeaters — and it loops through that data.
Works with any data source. ACF repeaters inside post loops. Taxonomy terms with their posts. Menu items with submenu levels. Same pattern for all of them.
Each level of nesting gets its own clean structure. No complex naming schemes. No template gymnastics.
Dedicated Recursive Template Element
Handle unlimited depth hierarchical data with a single element. The Recursive Template automatically repeats itself for nested structures — menus 12 levels deep, comment threads, category hierarchies.
Set it up once with a recursive name. Reference that name where the structure repeats. Builderius handles the rest.
No manual nesting. No PHP functions. No limit on depth. Just clean, working recursion.

Builderius is the only visual builder with dedicated recursive support.
Collection Architecture Simplified
These new elements create a clearer system:
Collection — The loop container with your chosen HTML tag
Template — Element that wraps what repeats (produces no markup)
Sub-Collection — For nested data (loops inside loops)
Recursive Template — For unlimited depth hierarchical data
The old collection system required complex template naming and manual nesting. The new system is direct. Each element does one thing. Build simple structures simply. Build complex structures with the same clarity.
Updated Standard Starter
Standard starter is updated with new collection structures, new logo and cleaned up footer. The new menu builder demonstrates proper collection architecture. Use it as reference or customize it directly.
Menu Builder Improvements
Menu dropdowns now work in Safari (they didn’t before). Background colors removed from default menu styles for easier customization. Specificity reduced across all menu builder styles.
Menus built with the old collection system continue working. New menus use Sub-Collection and Recursive Template for cleaner structure.
